Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • How is this different from ChatGPT or other AI tools?

Writeorium uses specialized prompts calibrated for each grade level (5th-6th, 7th-8th, 9th-12th) and writing type (narrative, argumentative, research, poetry, etc.). Unlike generic AI tools, our feedback is tailored to developmental stage and specific writing criteria.

We never rewrite student work or generate essays for them. ChatGPT and similar tools will rewrite sentences or complete assignments — which doesn’t teach anything. Writeorium focuses on teaching craft through specific, actionable feedback that helps students revise independently.

  • What age is Writeorium appropriate for?

Writeorium is designed for students in grades 5–12 (approximately ages 10–18) and college-level and adult writers.

Feedback is calibrated by grade group:

    – 5th-6th grade: Warm, encouraging tone with concrete next steps

    – 7th-8th grade: Balanced challenge and support with deeper analysis

    – 9th-12th grade: College-prep rigor with advanced literary and rhetorical terminology

    – College & Adult: Peer-level critique with full literary and rhetorical depth, appropriate for academic essays, creative writing, fiction, drama, poetry, and professional writing.

Younger students may use Writeorium with parental guidance, but our feedback is specifically designed for middle and high school writers.

  • What types of writing are supported?

Writeorium supports eight types of writing for 5-12, plus additional types for college and adult writers:

    – Narrative (stories, personal essays, memoir)

    – Opinion/Argumentative (persuasive essays, debates)

    – Informative (explanatory writing, how-to guides)

    – Compare and Contrast (analytical essays)

    – Research/Report (cited research papers)

    – Creative Writing (literary prose, character studies)

    – Drama/Play (scripts, dialogue)

    – Poetry (free verse, rhyming, experimental)

College & Adult writers also have access to:

    – Literary Fiction

    – Academic Writing

    – Professional Writing

    – Personal/Creative Nonfiction

Each type has its own criteria and feedback framework tailored to what makes that type of writing successful.

  • What grade levels does Writeorium support?

Writeorium provides feedback for students in grades 5–12, organized into three grade groups:

    – Grades 5-6 (ages 10-12): Supportive, encouraging feedback with age-appropriate vocabulary

    – Grades 7-8 (ages 12-14): More analytical feedback introducing advanced concepts

    – Grades 9-12 (ages 14-18): College-preparatory feedback with sophisticated literary and rhetorical terminology

College & adult writing is also supported, providing professional feedback with college-level terminology.

Each grade group receives feedback calibrated to their developmental stage and learning needs.

Using Writeorium

  • What languages does Writeorium support?

Writeorium can read and understand writing in multiple languages, but all feedback is provided in English. If you submit work in German, French, Spanish, or another language, you’ll receive thoughtful critique — but the analysis will be written in English.

  • How long does it take to get feedback?

AI-generated feedback is typically delivered within minutes of submission. Professional editor critiques are delivered via email within 7 business days from the order date.

  • What counts as one critique?

One critique equals one submitted text.

If a revised version is submitted later, that counts as a separate critique.

  • Can my child submit the same piece multiple times?

Yes! Revision is an important part of learning. However, each submission (including revised versions) uses one credit.

  • What word limits apply?

Free trial: Up to 300 words per submission

Paid submissions: Up to 2,000 words per submission

  • Is my child’s writing stored or shared?

Storage: Submitted texts are stored in your account until you delete them.

AI Processing: Texts are processed through Anthropic’s Claude API to generate feedback. Anthropic retains data for 30 days for trust and safety purposes, then permanently deletes it. Per Anthropic’s terms, your child’s work is never used to train AI models.

Privacy: We never publish, share publicly, or sell student work to third parties.

  • What is the professional editor critique?

This is an optional, paid service.

A professional editor provides a written critique by email.

No rewriting or changes are made to the text.
